Movement artist
Evelyn Tejeda is a Dominican performer, choreographer, improviser, and dance educator whose work merges urban and contemporary languages with a distinct, personal movement identity. A Semi-Finalist on Dominicana’s Got Talent (2019), she is a founding member of the National Contemporary Dance Company of the Dominican Republic (2010–2019), directed by renowned Cuban choreographer Marianela Boan. With a Master’s degree in Performing Arts from the Rey Juan Carlos University in Madrid, Tejeda has developed a choreographic voice rooted in collaboration, improvisation, and social reflection.
Her acclaimed solo Imposible Explicar earned her the Grand Prize of Dance Quisqueya and the Audience Award at SoloCoreografico USA (2021), touring to major international festivals including Bates Dance Festival (USA), FIDCDMX (Mexico), UNION PDX (USA), EDANCO (Dominican Republic), and XVII Encuentro de Danza (Ecuador). She was also selected for a choreographic residency with Maura Morales in Düsseldorf, Germany.
In 2024, she premiered 0.4mm, awarded First Prize at the 10 Sentidos International Festival in Spain. The work was presented at Battery Dance Festival (NYC), North to Shore Festival (NJ), EDANCO (DR), and West Dance Festival (NYC), with upcoming invitations to DELTEBRE Festival and Burgos & NY 2025. That same year, she was awarded a 2025 Fellowship from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts and selected as a Hi-Arts Critical Breaks Artist.
Her international collaborations include performances with choreographers such as Carmen Werner, Fernando Hurtado, Francisco Centeno, Awilda Polanco, Karol Marenco, Sasa Queliz, and Pepe Hevia. She was invited by French choreographer David Milome in both 2014 and 2022, touring across France, Luxembourg, and Martinique, including the prestigious Festival d’Avignon.
As an Elite Judge for Hip-Hop International, she has judged national and world championships. She is the founder of Urban Dance Project LABS, an initiative that promotes Hip-Hop culture in the Dominican Republic through education, performances, and community events. She has taught masterclasses internationally, including at Western Michigan University, University of the Arts Ecuador (UARTES), Union PDX Festival (USA), and MD School in Martinique.
Tejeda has also performed at the Heat Latin Music Awards, sharing the stage with artists such as Farruko, Anuel AA, Greeicy, Thomaz, and Eddy Herrera, and has appeared in music videos for Daddy Yankee, Enrique Iglesias, La Materialista, Sean Paul, and Don Omar.
